Are Overnight Positions Allowed?

Yes, you can hold positions overnight, and plenty of traders here run multi-day strategies. There are a few things worth understanding before you do.

Gap Risk Responsibility

  • You are fully responsible for any overnight gap risk. When holding positions overnight, make sure you size down appropriately to account for potential adverse market moves.

Your Overnight P&L Carries into the Next Day

  • An overnight position carries its unrealised P&L into the next day as your start-of-day value, and that feeds straight into your $2,000 daily loss limit.
  • A position in profit gives you a larger buffer for the following day. A position in the red reduces it, which means you can breach the daily loss limit having lost less than $2,000 that day.

Weekend Holds

  • You can hold a position over the weekend, but trading is currently disabled on our accounts during that period while the other markets are closed.
  • If you’re holding a crypto position you won’t be able to close or adjust it until the session reopens.

In short, overnight positions are allowed. Account for gap risk, and remember that your unrealised P&L follows you into the next day’s loss limit.
